Make sewing patterns in Claude with the Sewly connector
Add Sewly to Claude as a connector, then send Claude a photo link or describe the garment with your measurements. Sewly drafts the pattern, shows it in the chat and gives you the printable PDF.
- 1
Open Claude's connector settings
In Claude on the web or in the desktop app, open Settings and go to Connectors. Custom connectors are available on the Claude plans that support them; if you do not see the option, check Anthropic's help center for your plan.
- 2
Add Sewly as a custom connector
Choose Add custom connector, name it Sewly and paste https://sewly.app/api/mcp as the server URL, then save. In a new chat, check that Sewly is turned on in the tools menu before you ask for a pattern. You only need to add it once.
- 3
Ask for a pattern
Send Claude a photo link, such as a public Pinterest pin, Instagram post or shop page, or describe the garment in words. Add your measurements, with height, bust, waist and hip to start, or a standard size. Mention the length and fabric you have in mind if you know them.
- 4
Refine, print and sew
Ask for changes in the conversation and Sewly redraws the pattern. When you are happy with it, open the printable PDF from the link, print it at true scale, check the test square and follow the step-by-step guide. Printing needs a Maker or Atelier plan.
What does the Sewly connector for Claude do?
Sewly works inside ChatGPT and Claude as an app (an MCP server): send the assistant a photo link or describe the garment with your measurements, and Sewly drafts the pattern, shows it in the chat and gives you the printable PDF.
In Claude, Sewly is a connector. Claude holds the conversation and understands your request; Sewly's drafting engine draws the pattern to scale from flat-pattern blocks and your measurements. The pattern appears in the chat, and you can keep asking Claude for changes or sewing advice.

How to add Sewly to Claude
Sewly is a remote MCP server, added to Claude as a custom connector:
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Sewly and paste the server URL: https://sewly.app/api/mcp.
- Save, and turn Sewly on from the tools menu of a chat if needed.
Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan; Anthropic's help center lists which plans include them. Our setup guide keeps these steps current.
What to ask Claude
Give Claude the garment and your size in one message. For example:
- "Draft a pattern for the dress in this Instagram post", with the link, and "bust 92 cm, waist 74 cm, hip 100 cm, midi length".
- "A hoodie with a kangaroo pocket for my son, size 10 years."
- "An A-line skirt with patch pockets and an elastic waist, women's EU 44."
If you are unsure of your measurements, ask Claude to walk you through taking them before it calls Sewly.

Refine it in the conversation
Claude keeps the context of the conversation, so you can refine the pattern step by step: "make the sleeves three-quarter", "switch to an elastic waist", "a bit more flare". Sewly redraws the pattern each time, with the same drafting engine as on sewly.app.
You can also ask Claude to explain a step of the sewing guide, suggest fabrics for the garment or plan several garments that work together.
Plans and printing
Sewly's plans are the same everywhere. On the free plan you can make 3 AI patterns and send 20 AI messages a month, change options and measurements without limit, and read the sewing guide on screen.
Printing the PDF needs Maker ($7.99 a month or $59 a year) or Atelier ($14.99 a month or $119 a year), which also include the sewing guide as a PDF. Sewly works in ChatGPT too: see Sewly for ChatGPT.

Yes. It is the same MCP server, added to ChatGPT as an app. See Sewly for ChatGPT.

Bring the picture. Sewly brings the pattern.
Your pictures stay private and are only used to make your pattern.
