These terms are the agreement between you and Sewly when you use sewly.app, the Sewly app or Sewly inside ChatGPT or Claude. In short: making patterns is free; printing needs a paid plan, billed monthly or yearly through Stripe, that you can cancel anytime; you own what you upload; you may sew and sell garments made from your patterns, but the pattern files are for your personal use; and you should check the test square and make a toile for important projects.

By creating an account or using Sewly, you accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Sewly.

Who we are

Sewly is operated by:

  • Company: Sewly
  • Established in: France
  • E-mail: hello@sewly.app
  • Hosting: Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, United States

The service

Sewly is an AI sewing pattern maker. You give it a photo, a screenshot, a link or a description; an AI recognizes the garment and its details; Sewly's drafting engine draws the pattern pieces to your measurements or a standard size. You can preview the garment in 3D, follow a sewing guide and ask it questions, and, on a paid plan, print the pattern at true scale.

Sewly drafts from a library of garment types it knows well (20 at launch: skirts, dresses, tops, sweatshirts, trousers, a kimono jacket, bags, a hat and home pieces) and picks the closest one with the right options; it does not yet draft tailored jackets, coats, jeans with a fly front, lingerie or swimwear.

We improve Sewly continually and may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what your paid plan includes, we tell you in advance; you may then cancel and get a refund for the unused part of the period you paid for.

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian who accepts these terms for you.
  • You sign in with Google or with a link sent to your e-mail address. Keep that e-mail account and Google account secure: whoever controls them can sign in to Sewly.
  • An account is for one person. Do not open several free accounts to get around plan limits.
  • Use an e-mail address you read: we send sign-in links, receipts and important notices there.
  • You are responsible for what is done with your account, including by ChatGPT or Claude once you have connected them. Tell us at hello@sewly.app if you think someone else has used it.

Plans, prices and billing

Making, fitting and previewing patterns is free. Printing and more AI need a paid plan:

PlanMonthlyYearlyWhat it includes
FreeFreeFree3 AI patterns and 20 AI messages a month, unlimited changes by hand, 3D preview, sewing guide on screen; no printing
Maker$7.99$59Printing on every paper size, the PDF sewing guide, 30 AI patterns and 300 AI messages a month, 5 measurement profiles
Atelier$14.99$119Everything in Maker, unlimited AI patterns and messages (fair use), unlimited measurement profiles, priority support

Prices are in US dollars, or the same figures in euros where we show euros (7,99 € and 59 € for Maker, 14,99 € and 119 € for Atelier). They include VAT and other sales taxes where these apply, and the exact amount is shown before you pay. Current prices are on the pricing page.

  • Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment provider. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method at the start of each billing period. Stripe's terms and privacy policy apply to your payment details.
  • Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price then in force, until you cancel it. Before a yearly plan renews, we send you a reminder by e-mail.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from your account. Canceling stops the next renewal: your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, then your account returns to the Free plan. Your patterns stay in your account.
  • Refunds. If Sewly does not work for you, ask for a refund within 14 days of your first payment. The refund policy explains how.
  • Price changes. We may change our prices. A new price applies to your subscription only from the first renewal after at least 30 days' notice by e-mail. If you do not accept it, cancel before that renewal.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe tries again over the following days. If it still fails, your account returns to the Free plan until the payment goes through.
  • Invoices. Receipts are sent by e-mail and your invoices are available from your account.

AI limits and fair use

An AI pattern is a new pattern made from a photo, a link or a description. An AI message is a change asked in words, a question to the sewing guide or help with measurements. Changing measurements and options by hand never counts and is unlimited on every plan.

AI allowances are counted per calendar month and reset on the first day of each month; what you do not use does not carry over.

Unlimited means fair use. On the Atelier plan, AI patterns and messages are unlimited for normal use by one person, sewing for themselves, for others or for a small shop. Automated use, an account shared between several people, or volumes far beyond what a busy maker could use are not normal use. If your use looks like that, we contact you first; we may then slow down or limit AI requests on the account. In cases of clear abuse, we may act at once.

We may also apply technical limits, such as the size of uploads or the number of requests per minute, to keep Sewly fast and safe for everyone.

The AI can make mistakes: it may misread a picture, pick a different garment type than you hoped or give an imperfect answer. Check the options it chose and its answers against your own judgment.

Acceptable use

Use Sewly lawfully and with respect for others. In particular, do not:

  • upload or link to illegal content, or content that is hateful, harassing, sexual content involving minors, or that invades someone's privacy;
  • upload pictures you have no right to use. Starting from a picture you found online to make a pattern for your own sewing is what Sewly is for; it gives you no right to republish that picture;
  • scrape, crawl or download Sewly's pages, patterns or data in bulk, or access Sewly by automated means other than the official ChatGPT and Claude integrations;
  • resell, share, publish or otherwise redistribute pattern files, or offer Sewly's patterns or features as part of another product or service;
  • reverse engineer Sewly's drafting engine or software, except to the extent the law allows;
  • get around plan limits, payments or security measures, or disrupt Sewly's operation;
  • use Sewly to infringe other people's trademarks, design rights or copyright.

We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules (see "Suspension and closing your account" below).

Reporting illegal content

If you come across content on Sewly that you believe is illegal, write to hello@sewly.app with where it is, why you believe it is illegal, and your name and e-mail address. We review reports promptly. When we restrict content or an account, we tell the person concerned why and how to contest the decision.

Your content and intellectual property

What you own

You keep all your rights in what you bring to Sewly: your pictures, descriptions, measurements and messages. You give Sewly a limited license to store, process and transmit them, including through the providers listed in the privacy policy, only to provide the service to you. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law. You confirm that you have the rights needed to give us this content.

What Sewly owns

Sewly's software, drafting engine, garment blocks, sewing guides, website and brand belong to Sewly and its licensors. Nothing in these terms transfers them to you.

Your patterns

The patterns Sewly drafts for you are generated from Sewly's garment library and drafting engine. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:

  • view, print and adapt your pattern files for your own sewing;
  • sew as many garments from them as you like;
  • sell the garments you make from them, for example at markets, online or in a small shop.

You may not share, publish, sell, give away or otherwise redistribute the pattern files (PDF, projector files, or any copy or tracing of them), on their own or as part of another product.

A pattern drafted from a picture recreates the shape of a garment, not its brand. If you sell what you sew, do not use other brands' names, logos or protected prints, and make sure the design you reproduce is not protected, for example by a registered design.

Feedback

If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely, without owing you anything.

Accuracy of patterns and the 3D preview

Sewly drafts every pattern from your measurements with the ease each style needs, using the flat-pattern methods pattern makers use. Bodies, fabrics and printers vary, so before you cut:

  • Check the test square: print at 100 % ("Actual size") and measure the square on the first pages: exactly 5 cm (2 in).
  • Make a toile, a trial version in inexpensive fabric, for fitted garments, important projects or costly fabric.
  • Treat the 3D preview as indicative: it shows the silhouette and proportions on a mannequin built from your measurements, not exactly how your fabric will drape.
  • Treat fabric quantities as estimates: buy a little extra, especially for prints to match or fabric that may shrink.

Within the limits of the law, Sewly is not responsible for fabric cut or garments sewn without these checks. If you find an error in a pattern, please tell us: we want to fix it.

Availability

We work to keep Sewly available at all times but cannot promise it will never be interrupted: maintenance, updates and outages at our providers or on the internet can make it temporarily unavailable. If we decide to close Sewly, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance, give you time to download your printable patterns, and refund the unused part of any paid period.

Third-party services

Sewly works with services run by others: Google for sign-in, Stripe for payments, ChatGPT and Claude when you use Sewly inside them, and the sites your links come from, such as Pinterest, Instagram or online shops. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them. Sewly is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pinterest, Instagram, OpenAI or Google.

Suspension and closing your account

You can stop using Sewly and delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy). If you delete your account during a paid period, your subscription is canceled and the refund policy applies.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, does not pay, or puts Sewly or other people at risk. Except in urgent cases (fraud, illegal content, security threats), we warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the unused part of any paid period.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for gross negligence or willful misconduct.

If you are a consumer, we are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to comply with these terms or by our lack of reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for business losses, or for loss caused by skipping the checks described above or by events beyond our reasonable control. Your statutory rights are not affected.

If you use Sewly for a business, to the extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the amounts you paid Sewly during that period, and we are not liable for indirect loss, loss of profit, revenue or data.

Your rights as a consumer in the EU

Guarantee of conformity

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you benefit from the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services (in France, articles L224-25-12 and following of the Consumer Code). If Sewly does not work as described, you can ask us to bring it into conformity; if we cannot do so within a reasonable time, you can ask for a price reduction or end the contract and be refunded.

Right of withdrawal

Consumers in the EU normally have 14 days to withdraw from a contract made online. For digital content and services supplied right away, this right ends once performance has begun with your agreement. When you subscribe, you ask for immediate access to the paid features (printing and the PDF sewing guide) and expressly agree that we start at once; by doing so, you acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once that access has begun.

This does not leave you without a way back. Sewly's own refund promise applies on top of it: if Sewly does not work for you, ask within 14 days of your first payment and we refund it in full, without you having to justify it. See the refund policy.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of the country where you live.

If you have a problem, write to us first at hello@sewly.app: most problems are solved quickly by e-mail. If you are a consumer and we cannot reach an agreement, you may refer the dispute free of charge to a consumer mediator; we give you our mediator's contact details on request.

Failing an amicable solution, disputes go to the competent courts of France. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings before the courts of the country where you live. For business customers, the courts having jurisdiction over our registered office have exclusive jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. For changes that matter to you, we tell you by e-mail or in the app at least 30 days before they apply. If you do not accept them, you can cancel your subscription and close your account before then. The date at the top shows the version in force.

General

  • If a clause of these terms is found invalid, the rest of the terms stays in force.
  • If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not give it up.
  • You may not transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Sewly, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Where we provide these terms in your language, you may rely on that version.
